After shots were fired in the park, police pursued a car

The sixth shooting incident in Cambridge this year and the second in the last two weeks occurred Thursday at Greene-Rose Heritage Park in The Port neighborhood, Cambridge said.

Police arrived at 10:05 p.m. and found shell casings in “multiple locations,” including on Dickinson Street, the northern border of the park. Scanner reports said a witness saw a man with a gun running toward Broadway, another block north of Dickinson.

According to scanner reports, officers were pursuing a black 2023 Dodge Charger in connection with the shooting. The vehicle was last seen on Brookline Street in The Port.

No property damage or injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.

The incident occurred long before the fireworks display scheduled for 10:30 p.m. on Boston’s Esplanade.

Most recently, shots were fired at Newtowne Court public housing, also located in The Port, on June 27. This is also the second year in a row that shots have been fired at Greene-Rose Heritage Park; ShotSpotter gunshot detection technology recorded shots fired on Harvard Street, the park’s south side, in May of last year. Shell casings were also found and no injuries were reported.
