Atlanta Airport Ground Stop | delays

The ground shutdown will be in effect from 11:08 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., according to the FAA website.

ATLANTA — The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground shutdown at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Thursday as severe storms move through northern Georgia.

The ground shutdown will be in effect from 11:08 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

According to the FAA website, no flights come to Atlanta from most central and eastern United States. Flights from Atlanta were also grounded.

Strong storms moved into parts of northern Georgia overnight and continue to move through the region Thursday morning.

Most of metro Atlanta and northern Georgia are currently under a tornado watch which is expected to last until 1 p.m. The Storm Prediction Center has placed Atlanta and the South at a Level 3 Severe Weather Threat.

Some areas have also received severe thunderstorm warnings as the weather develops.

Some towns in northern Georgia reported damage, including downed trees and power lines and damaged roofs.
