Other diseases in the FDA CORE Outbreak Investigation Table

One outbreak, the Salmonella outbreak linked to Infinite Herbs’ fresh organic basil, resulted in 36 people becoming ill in 14 states. Four people were hospitalized and two recalls were issued.

The number of unresolved Salmonella Typhimurium outbreaks has increased from 53 to 80 since the last update. The FDA has initiated a traceback but has not yet initiated an inspection, sampling, or testing of samples.

And the unresolved Listeria monocytogenes outbreak has sickened two people. The FDA has initiated a traceback, inspected a facility, and collected and tested samples.

The outbreak of Salmonella Africana and Salmonella Braenderup linked to recalled Bedner Growers cucumbers sold under the Fresh Start brand has now sickened at least 449 people in 31 states and the District of Columbia. 125 patients are hospitalized. However, these cucumbers do not explain all of the illnesses, so the FDA’s investigation is ongoing. The FDA found the outbreak strain of Salmonella Braenderup in untreated canal water that was allegedly used for the cucumbers.

The outbreak linked to Diamond Shruumz microdosing candies has now sickened at least 48 people in 24 states. 27 of those patients have been hospitalized. And one patient has died, although the FDA isn’t sure if the candies were the cause of death. An FDA investigation found muscimol, a compound found in fly agaric, in those products. Muscimol could be the cause of symptoms in this outbreak, as it is classified as an acutely toxic compound.

Finally, the E. coli O157:H7 outbreak linked to recalled Gibson Farms organic walnuts has not been updated since April 30, 2024. At least 12 people have been sickened in this outbreak; they live in California and Washington.
