Norris fought hard with Verstappen for the win before a collision between the two on lap 64 ended the race for Norris, dropping Verstappen to fifth place and ultimately giving Mercedes’ George Russell the second race win of his career.

Verstappen received a 10-second penalty for his role in the drama, but since then the Dutchman has been subjected to harsh criticism and his aggressive driving style has been questioned again.

Norris reveals Verstappen talks

Now, ahead of the British GP weekend, Norris has spoken out about the incident, revealing that the pair – who are good friends off the track – had spoken about the incident together.

Norris is currently Verstappen’s biggest title rival and goes into his home race with the chance to once again fight Verstappen for the race win.

“Yes, we (talked about that),” Norris revealed in the drivers’ press conference on Thursday.

“Honestly, I don’t think he had to apologize. Some of the things I said in the pen after the race were more because I was frustrated at the time. There was a lot of adrenaline in my blood, a lot of emotions involved and I probably said things I didn’t necessarily believe, especially later in the week.

“It was tough. It was a pretty pathetic incident that ended both of our races. There was no impact, no obvious contact. It was probably one of the smallest contacts you can have, but with pretty bad consequences for both of us, especially for me.

“He doesn’t have to. I don’t expect an apology from him. I don’t think he should apologise. I thought it was a good race, as I judged it, maybe very close to the limit at times, but as I said, we’ve talked about it and we’re both happy to be racing again.”

“We went over things a couple of times. I learned a lot. I think I expected a lot and knew about it. You fight different people at the front, you fight in a different way than when you’re a little further back like we did last year or so.

“But at the same time, Max races a completely different style of race compared to many others. That’s one of the reasons why he’s a champion.”
