House in East Charlotte destroyed by fire after candle accident; two dogs rescued

Firefighters tossed smoldering insulation debris from an east Charlotte home that caught fire on Thursday, July 4.

CHARLOTTE, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Four people are homeless after a fire in east Charlotte caused $17,000 in damage Friday afternoon.

According to the Charlotte Fire Department, the fire broke out in the 5700 block of Ebley Lane around 3:20 p.m. on July 4. When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the garage.


Firefighters told Queen City News that four people were left homeless but did not seek help from the Red Cross. Additionally, two dogs were rescued from a home near Albemarle Road.

The fire was caused by an unattended burning candle and may have been an accident.
