Red Cross Prepares for Hurricane Beryl in Texas

HOUSTON – As the sun shines over Houston on this Fourth of July, Hurricane Beryl has already hit parts of the Caribbean.

And because Beryl has the potential to make landfall in Texas, the American Red Cross said on social media that it has already taken steps to respond and help residents.

In a post on X, the Red Cross said in part:

“Our team in Houston restocked the shelter trailers, while our team in Harlingen unloaded water and supplies and stocked the warehouse to ensure we could serve our communities,” the message concluded.

Hurricane Beryl has already caused widespread damage, ripping off roofs in Jamaica, disrupting fishing boats in Barbados and damaging or destroying 95 percent of homes on two islands in St. Vincent and the Grenadines before slamming into the Cayman Islands early Thursday and pounding Mexico’s Caribbean coast. At least nine people have been killed.
