Chris Eubanks’ son appears in court, charged with raping a teenager

Chris Eubank’s son Joseph has appeared in court after being accused of raping a young girl. Eubank, 27, is accused of attacking the alleged victim near Brighton Pier in July 2022, the Mirror reports.

Joseph appeared before Brighton Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with raping a woman over the age of 16. A police investigation was launched after the teenager claimed to have been raped near the city of Brighton on July 16, 2022, KosovaPress reports. The youngest son of British boxing legend Eubank, a former two-weight world champion, would only confirm his name, date of birth and address. Joseph, who wore a grey coat, white T-shirt and white shoes at his hearing, was released on bail and will appear at Lewes Crown Court next month.

“I am referring your case to Lewes Crown Court for trial on these two charges,” District Judge Richard Hawgood told him.

“Due to the nature and seriousness of these allegations, these matters can only be heard in the Crown Court.” The teenager was assisted by special police forces when Joseph was arrested and later charged.

As part of the bail conditions, Eubank is allowed to apply for travel documents that will allow him to travel outside England and Wales. Joseph has also been given a curfew between 8pm and midnight and police are allowed to search his home. Unlike his father and older brother Chris Jr., Joseph is not a professional boxer.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest British boxers of all time, Chris Sr. is best known for his bitter rivalry with rival Nigel Benn. Eubank handed Benny the first defeat of his career when they watched their rematch in 1990 in front of over 42,000 fans, which ended in a draw three years later.

The 57-year-old defended his super middleweight world title 14 times before eventually losing it to Steve Collins. Eubank was unable to regain his belt in a rematch, suffering losses to Joe Calzaghe and Carl Thompson before finally retiring in 1998 with an impressive record of 45-5-2.
