Severe weather warning for parts of Eastern Kentucky until 7 p.m.

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – A Severe Weather Warning has been issued for parts of Eastern Kentucky until 7 p.m. Rowan, Elliott, Menifee, Morgan, Powell, Wolfe, Magoffin, Estill, Lee, Breathitt, Jackson and Owsley Counties are all in the affected warning areas. The greatest risk is strong, gusty winds over 60 mph. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out in these areas; however, the chance of this occurring is very low. These storms will move through the area into the night. Keep an eye on the WYMT First Alert Weather App and WYMT.com for more information on the Severe Weather Warning.

Friday into the weekend

Friday will see a cool down to 28 degrees, with a renewed risk of storms, with heavy rain and gusty winds possible in stronger storms. Saturday will see a slight risk of storms throughout the day, leading to temperatures of 28 degrees on Saturday, and these storms will continue into the late evening hours. Sunday will be mostly sunny, with temperatures between 28 and 30 degrees, making for a dry day to end the weekend.

looking ahead

A week of average temperatures is ahead. Temperatures are expected to be in the 30s and lows between 18 and 21 degrees by the middle of your work week. That promises some nice nights with increasing chances of rain Wednesday through Thursday. Temperatures will still be above average in July for the next few weeks, but this week should be a relief from the 30-degree temperatures we’ve experienced for most of June.
