One dead and one police officer injured in shooting in Yellowstone National Park – Sheridan Media

During the night and morning of July 4, a major police incident occurred in Canyon Village in the central part of Yellowstone National Park.

There are no active threats to the public.

Rangers responded to a report that a person with a firearm was making threats.

When rangers made contact with the individual, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the individual and law enforcement rangers.

The person has died.

The identity of the person is not currently disclosed.

A Yellowstone Police park ranger was injured.

The person’s condition is stable and he is being treated at a nearby regional hospital.

An area around the Canyon Lodge complex remains closed for the investigation.

The FBI is leading the investigation with assistance from special agents from the National Park Service.

Details of the incident are currently being investigated.
