Monadnock Ledger Transcript – Rindge launches new emergency alert app

Rindge has launched a new citizen notification mobile app that sends alerts about events in the city as well as updates during emergency situations such as storms or road closures.

Rindge Emergency Management kicked off the program with a booth at the family festival on Sunday, where residents could learn more about and sign up for the alert system, called Rindge Alerts.

The app was developed in partnership with GOGov, a company that specializes in providing software and apps to local governments, particularly mobile software. The Rindge Alerts app is a comprehensive alert system for city updates, including news, events, service alerts, emergency notifications, road closures, extended car accidents, downed trees and lines, and fires, as well as requests for citizen assistance.

The app will be available to all city departments to provide notice of important city meetings, elections, public hearings or city events and programs. Emergency alerts will replace all other notifications, said Rickard Donovan, director of life safety.

So far, the program has only been used to send a test warning.

“This is the first day of rollout, so it’s still a work in progress,” Donovan said during Family Fest. “But next week we’ll be training city staff on how to use it and send notifications about programs, meetings or other events in the city.”

The app currently also contains links to various pages of the city’s website, the city calendar, frequently asked questions and the city’s Facebook page.

The app is free to download and use. Users can access it through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store by searching for “Rindge Alerts.” It is recommended to allow the app to send notifications.
