Weapons drawn during “road rage” in East Helena

A road rage incident in East Helena on Tuesday resulted in two men pulling out guns, according to Lewis & Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton.

Dutton told MTN the incident occurred at the Town Pump Food Store on Lane Avenue around 8:15 p.m. Officers from the sheriff’s office and Helena Police Department were on the scene.

According to Sheriff Dutton, the incident between Helena and East Helena began when one driver allegedly cut off the other’s right of way.

Both drivers drove to the Town Pump, where an argument ensued during which both drivers reportedly pulled out weapons.

Dutton says the two men began yelling at each other before one fled into the store and asked for the police to be called.

None of the men fired their weapons and no one was injured.

“We don’t have to live in the Wild West. This could have been solved much more easily. There were children and all kinds of people playing there. The risk of innocent victims was huge and insurmountable,” Dutton said.

There were 13 units on site at Town Pump and the store had to be closed for about 40 minutes.

No arrests were made as both parties claimed self-defense.
