British woman murdered her parents and lived with their corpses for several years

A woman from the United Kingdom pleaded guilty to murdering her parents and then living in their home for several years, according to a report in the Independent. Virginia McCullough, 36, pleaded guilty during her appearance via prison video call at Chelmsford Crown Court on Thursday to the murders of Lois McCullough, 71, and John McCullough, 70, between June 17 and 20, 2019. She hid the bodies in the house and remained there.

To cover her tracks, the woman lied to doctors and relatives that her parents were sick or on vacation. Her behavior came to light on Sept. 15, 2023, when Essex police executed a search warrant on the Pump Hill apartment after her parents’ doctors raised concerns about a lack of visits. At that point, the 36-year-old admitted to stabbing her mother and poisoning her father with prescription drugs, police said.

McCullough confirmed her identity, pleaded guilty to both charges and said she understood the judge’s comments. She will be sentenced on October 10 and 11.

According to the newspaper, Judge Christopher Morgan said: “You will understand that in these circumstances only one sentence can be imposed on you. However, the minimum sentence must be taken into account.”

Meanwhile, people in the neighborhood described the woman as “quite talkative” and “a bit strange,” according to The guard. Dave Oldershaw, a neighbor, said McCullough “carried on and went to the Chinese (take-out) place like nothing had happened.” He “thought she lived alone” in the house and explained he “only knew her to say hello – she wasn’t causing any trouble.”

An employee at a nearby store said the woman told him her parents had moved to the seaside. He said he had not seen her since the Covid-19 pandemic, but previously he had seen her “two or three times a week.”

According to the employee, McCullough “seemed a little odd at times.” “She came in and said, ‘Would you like a coffee?’ and five minutes later there was a coffee,” the employee continued.
