6 teenagers arrested in stolen vehicles in Kewanee

Six juveniles were arrested in Kewanee early this morning after police said in a news release they were involved in the theft of cars from Peoria and Brimfield.

Kewanee Police received a report from their Flock Camera System that a stolen vehicle from Peoria had entered the Kewanee city limits at approximately 4:15 a.m. on July 4. Officers from the Kewanee Police Department and Henry County Sheriff’s Office found the stolen vehicle at a gas station in the 300 block of Tenney Street. Another vehicle that had been stolen from Brimfield but had not yet been reported was also found at the gas station.

When police arrived, five juvenile suspects fled the scene. One suspect was immediately arrested, and police found a sixth juvenile suspect inside the gas station. The remaining four suspects were found and arrested shortly after they fled. Several community members saw the suspects running and/or hiding and called police.

All six were arrested and transported to the Kewanee Police Department, where they were booked into the juvenile detention center and released to their legal guardians or DCFS custody.
