Indianapolis man arrested for alleged traffic-rage shooting on I-70

On Wednesday around 2:15 p.m., police received a report that shots had been fired from a moving vehicle at a semi-trailer truck a few kilometers west of the Greenfield exit.

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. – An Indianapolis man was arrested Wednesday afternoon for his alleged role in a shooting following a traffic crash along Interstate 70 in Hancock County.

On July 3, at approximately 2:15 p.m., police received a report that shots had been fired from a moving vehicle at a semi-trailer truck on I-70 near the 101-mile marker, a few miles west of the Greenfield exit.

Indiana State Police troopers spotted the suspect vehicle west of Mt. Comfort Road, stopped it, and arrested the driver. They found a weapon inside the vehicle.

A detective met with the driver of the semi-truck, who was uninjured, and found apparent bullet holes on the passenger side of the semi-truck.

In a press release, an ISP spokesperson said investigators believe the shooting was the result of a “road rage incident.” The 22-year-old suspect, who was pulled over, was arrested and taken to the Hancock County Jail.

(NOTE: 13News will not release the names of suspects in the cases until prosecutors have filed formal charges.)

As of Thursday morning, no formal charges had been filed.

According to state police, the incident is the 40th highway shooting in the Indianapolis metropolitan area in 2023. The ISP investigated 55 highway shootings in its Indianapolis district in 2023.

“Anyone who witnesses any type of road rage or is involved in such an incident is encouraged to call 911 immediately. Information provided by witnesses is of great value to the investigation,” an ISP spokesman said in a statement.
