Greg Rousseau named Buffalo Bills’ Most Promising Young Player in 2024

One of the toughest jobs for a general manager and NFL management is drafting young talent into potential franchise players. Brandon Beane has obviously missed out on some players, but he has a good sample size of solid players who have helped the Buffalo Bills become what they are today. The obvious top pick this regime has selected is Josh Allen, but there are plenty of other draft picks who have had some sort of impact on the Bills. Players like Ed Oliver, Taron Johnson, Spencer Brown, James Cook, O’Cyrus Torrence, and Greg Rousseau.

Rousseau was selected with the 30th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Miami. The Bills were coming off a season where, despite a conference championship run, they lacked pass rush. Drafting Rousseau was a no-brainer and so far, Rousseau has improved his game over the last three seasons. It also helps that he has the chance to learn from Von Miller in 2022 and Leonard Floyd in 2023 while Miller recovers from a torn ACL the previous season.

Rousseau has been impressive on the Bills defense, so much so that management decided to give him a fifth-year option on his rookie contract. With Rousseau under contract for at least the next two seasons, he has a chance to make a big statement and earn his first big contract.

Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon has a piece on the “most promising pieces” on each NFL team heading into the season. Kenyon went through every team in every division, and when it came to the Bills, Rousseau was mentioned.

“Tight end Dalton Kincaid is worth mentioning, but Greg Rousseau is a promising player at a premium position. The edge rusher had 17 sacks and 67 pressures in three seasons with the Bills. Buffalo recently picked up Rousseau’s fifth-year option, tying him to the organization through the 2025 season. Based on his current trajectory, Rousseau will be worthy of an extension in the near future.”
