Two women accuse Neil Gaiman of sexual harassment

Comic book author, writer and screenwriter Neil Gaiman, who has worked extensively with Netflix, has been accused of sexual assault by two women and an official complaint has been filed with the authorities.

The allegations are decades apart, with one of the women first meeting Gaiman when she worked as a nanny for his children. The 23-year-old, known only as Scarlett, claimed The Sandman The creator sexually abused her within hours of their first meeting at his home in New Zealand in February 2022.

Gaiman claims that the “cuddling” and “smooching” in the bathtub was consensual. The couple then had a three-week sexual relationship that was entirely consensual. However, Scarlett claimed that there were “rough and degrading penetrative sexual acts” that were not consensual on her part.

Turtle Media – who revealed the allegations in a podcast – claims to have seen “contemporary messages and notes and spoken to friends Scarlett was speaking to at the time,” which support her claims that her interactions with Gaiman were not always consensual.

The second woman was 18 when she met Gaiman at a book signing in Florida in 2003 and began a romantic relationship with him two years later. She claims she had “rough and painful sex that she neither wanted nor enjoyed” with a man more than 20 years her senior. Gaiman, however, denies any unlawful conduct and says he is “troubled” by the allegations against him.

The author strongly denies any wrongdoing and pointed out that New Zealand police rejected his offer to assist with the complaint filed in 2022, which he said indicates a lack of substance. Nevertheless, authorities have made “several attempts to speak to key individuals as part of this investigation and those efforts are ongoing,” and there are “a number of factors that need to be considered in this case, including the whereabouts of all parties.”

According to the initial report, Gaiman believes the Florida woman’s allegations are based on her regret over the end of their short-lived relationship, while Scarlett was “suffering from a medical condition associated with false memories” at the time of their relationship. However, it is noted that these claims are not supported or substantiated by her medical records or history.
