Former Pitt player embarks on coaching career with NBA’s Atlanta Hawks

Former Pitt player Parker Stewart has decided to launch his coaching career.

Stewart announced on Twitter/X that he will be joining the Atlanta Hawks as a “Development, Advanced Scouting and Video Associate.”

Stewart, a 6-foot-4 guard, began his collegiate career with the Panthers in the 2017-18 season. As a freshman, he started 20 games, playing over 26 minutes per game. Stewart shot 38 percent from the field and 39 percent from three-point range. The sharpshooter made more than two three-pointers per game that year for Pitt, making it one of three seasons in his collegiate career in which he accomplished that feat. Stewart finished his lone season with the Panthers averaging 9.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

He then transferred to UT Martin for the 2019-20 season, playing for his father, who was the head coach at the time. After a strong season averaging over 19 points per game, Stewart’s father, Anthony, tragically passed away before the 2020-21 season. Stewart did not play that season and ended up transferring to Indiana to play in the Big Ten in 2021-22. There, he averaged six points per game.

For the 2022-23 season, Stewart has decided to return to UT Martin. He has started 30 games and averaged over 16 points per game. He played in UK and Serbia last year as a professional, averaging 9/2/1 for Tamis in Serbia. However, he has now decided to hang up his basketball shoes.
