GONE STEALIN’, a stolen boat chase in Houston ends with an arrest and a person on the run

HOUSTON – Houston authorities spent the early morning hours of July 4 tracking a stolen truck carrying a boat.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Precinct 4, a multi-agency pursuit was initiated with assistance from the Houston Police Department, Harris County and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers chased a driver in a stolen truck carrying a boat for more than an hour starting on 290 West around 3 a.m. before turning to a perimeter and K-9 search near a bayou just west of the interstate.

The driver then exited the highway and traveled down several roads at speeds between 90 and 120 miles per hour. We’re told the driver was also traveling in the opposite direction on the Humble on-ramp before doing the same on the main lanes of U.S. 59.

Eventually, officers deployed a spike strip between Will Clayton and FM 1960 as the pursuit continued with the driver traveling the wrong distance. The pursuit ended in a crash around 4 a.m. on the southbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway near North Park Dr.

At least one person was arrested, it is unclear whether it was the driver or not, but investigators say they are still looking for another person.
