Woman arrested for driving 166 km/h

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a woman for allegedly speeding, fleeing and hitting a deputy.

On July 2, a deputy stopped a Chevy Camaro traveling 103 mph on SR 60 near Lake Wales, according to PCSO. The driver, Durisia Fleming, 23, stopped and showed the deputy her license. The deputy mentioned he could smell marijuana, and then, officials said, Fleming put the car in gear and fled.

According to the sheriff, Fleming drove with his lights off and began weaving through traffic. The deputy followed the Camaro from a distance but did not give chase.

Eventually, Fleming turned into a dead end street where the deputy encountered her. According to PCSO, Fleming made a U-turn and sped straight toward the patrol car, forcing the deputy to swerve.

Fleming then entered a curve on Sunset Drive and the Camaro went off the road, struck a guy wire on a Duke Energy tower and crashed.

According to PCSO, Fleming attempted to flee on foot but stopped. Officers said Fleming had a 26-year-old passenger with him throughout the incident. Neither Fleming nor the passenger were injured.

PCSO arrested both Fleming and the passenger and charged them with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Fleming was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, reckless driving, fleeing, resisting with violence and leaving the scene of an accident.

Fleming was recently arrested by Tampa police for speeding over 100 mph.
