According to FIR registered at Bhachau police stationOn Sunday evening, Chaudhary and “black marketeer” Yuvrajsinh Jadeja – a resident of Juni Moti Chirai village near Bhachau town – allegedly tried to run over six policemen with their unmarked Thar car. The two were arrested on National Highway 41 near Bhachau town.

Police seized 16 bottles of liquor and two cans of beer from the car — a total value of Rs 1,880 — and Jadeja could only stop the seizure when Dineshkumar Zala, a sub-inspector of Bhachau police station, fired at them.

Based on a complaint filed by Zala, the two were booked on Sunday under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 427 (culpable homicide causing damage to property amounting to fifty rupees) and 114 (abetment to commission of the offence) of the Indian Penal Code.

Based on a complaint by police constable Mohan Sonara, who was accompanying Zala, the two were booked for another offence under the Prohibition Act. “We are in the process of arresting the two in connection with the prohibition case,” said Kutch East Police SP Sagar Bagmar.

The Thar driven by Jadeja had no number plates, but a registration certificate found in the car showed that the vehicle was registered in the name of a local journalist in Gandhidham. “The police officer claims that Limbachiya is a friend of hers,” an official said.

“During interrogation, Chaudhary said that she and Yuvrajsinh came in contact through Instagram and Facebook about six months ago and became friends. It is possible that she was not aware of Yuvrajsinh’s criminal past initially. But it is implausible that she was unaware of Yuvrajsinh’s illegal activities after coming in contact with him,” the officer said.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Chaudhary’s lawyer Dilip Joshi Chaudhary said the police officer had moved the court of Bhachau Deputy Chief Judicial Magistrate DS Dabhi on Wednesday seeking bail in the murder case. The court has granted the application.

“We brought to the attention of the court that this court on Tuesday rejected the police’s petition for remand as it found no reasonable grounds for remand. We said that the petitioner, a woman, should be released on bail if no interrogation in custody is required under Section 437 of the Penal Code which empowers a subordinate court to grant bail to minors, women and sick persons etc. even in non-bailable offences. The court agreed to our petition and granted bail to Chaudhary.”

Previously, 16 cases had been registered against Jadeja at the Bhachau police station, in four of which he was wanted.
