Las Vegas driver admits drinking alcohol after accident that left 1 person dead

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (FOX5) – A driver admitted to being impaired in a crash that left one of her passengers dead and another seriously injured.

According to police, the accident occurred on Sunday, June 9, at around 2:04 p.m. in the area of ​​US 95 and the west exit of Lake Mead Boulevard.

According to police, Risa Mattele Hannah, a 29-year-old from Las Vegas, was driving a Nissan with two passengers. She was traveling north on U.S. 95 and attempted to take the westbound exit of Lake Mead.

When she exited the vehicle, she did not stay in her lane and ended up in an unpaved area. According to police, the Nissan began to spin and roll over several times.

The first passenger in the car, Jade Ashlee Hernandez, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas, died at the scene. The second passenger, an adult woman, was taken to the hospital with “serious” injuries.

In a press release, police announced that both passengers were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

  • 2 counts under Nevada Revised Statute 484C.430: Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs resulting in death and/or substantial bodily injury.
  • 2 counts under Nevada Revised Statute 484B.653 Reckless Driving Resulting in Death or Serious Bodily Injury.
  • 1 count under Nevada Revised Statute 484B.223: Failure to Maintain Proper Lane.
  • 1 count under Nevada Revised Statute 483.560: Driving while license is suspended.

Hannah appeared in court on June 10, Nevada State Police said. She was released on $20,000 bail and another hearing is scheduled for August 14.

“The investigation is being conducted by the Nevada State Highway Patrol Southern Command’s multidisciplinary investigation and reconstruction team,” police said.
