Search underway for man who killed his girlfriend, shot police officers and took a police car for a joyride through Houston’s museum district

HOUSTON – Like something you would see in a movie; A search is underway for a man who fatally shot his girlfriend Tuesday in Houston’s Museum District and then got into two shootouts with law enforcement officials.

According to Asst. Chief J. Anderson of the Houston Police Department, it all started a little after 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of McGregor and Almeda. Houston FD firefighters were reportedly refueling one of their trucks when they noticed a domestic dispute between an unidentified man and woman as they entered a store.

When they came outside, firefighters told police that the argument between the couple had become heated. That’s when they saw the man chasing the woman down the aisle of the store before shooting her approximately nine times. She was rushed to an area hospital, where police say she died from her injuries.

Firefighters alerted a nearby Harris County District 7 deputy to report what had happened, but in the meantime, the shooter got in his car and took off. He didn’t get far, however, according to Asst. Chief Anderson, because a deputy attempted to arrest him, but the man began shooting and a brief shootout ensued.

During the exchange of gunfire, the officer allegedly took cover, so the shooter got into the deputy’s patrol car and drove away.

Police said the unidentified shooter returned to the scene moments later to get his car, but got into another shootout with law enforcement.

Asst. Chief Anderson said at least Pct. The 7th Deputy Constable was injured in the shooting, but was taken to the hospital and is doing well. The shooter, however, remains at large, but authorities are searching for him and his vehicle, which was described as a black Chevrolet Camaro with a Texas license plate reading: DTB-4849.

Police have described the shooter as armed and dangerous, and while they have a good understanding of who he is, the public is still encouraged to share any information they may have to help find him.
