CHICAGO (WLS) — North Riverside police said an “incident” at North Riverside Park Mall prompted a major response by officers and firefighters on Wednesday evening.

In a brief statement, police said they were on scene “investigating an incident that occurred this evening.” Further details were not immediately available.

Dozens of police cars were seen in an otherwise empty parking lot in front of the entrance to a shopping center where construction work appeared to be taking place.

Police said there was no immediate danger to the public and asked people to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
