Dangerous heat continues on July 4th

MERIDIAN, Miss (WTOK) –

The infamous heat dome that has dried us out for so long is still hanging over our area, but it is beginning to dissipate. Nevertheless, above-average highs are still expected for July 4, with temperatures in the 90s. It will continue to be very humid, so In most areas, temperatures will feel like 40-45 degrees during the heat of the day. Because of this, heat warnings are in effect for Thursday. It’s important to protect yourself from the heat over the holidays. https://www.weather.gov/safety/heat and when it thunders…go into the house : https://www.weather.gov/safety/lightning.

This is important to note, as scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon. However, if rain falls in your area at the right time, it will help limit the rise in temperatures. There is very little chance of showers through Thursday evening, so the overall forecast for fireworks in our area looks good.

A frontal front will move into our region on Friday. It will increase the chance of rain, which should help keep temperatures from getting out of control. Most forecast models suggest that the front will indeed cross our area. So by the weekend, it will be a little less humid and a little cooler, with highs just above 30 degrees (seasonal). There will also be some isolated showers, but the weekend will be anything but a washout.

Next week, an area of low pressure will be located above our region, keeping temperatures at or below average for most of the week and allowing for daily rain.
