Heat warnings begin on the 4th and last until early next week

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – Our FIRST ALERT weather days begin on July 4th and last through the night of next Tuesday, as heat warnings have now been issued due to these extreme temperatures.

Daytime highs will range between 46 and 47 degrees Celsius throughout the valley, posing a danger to children, the elderly and especially pets without suitable shade structures or access to cooler areas.

There were scattered showers in eastern Arizona, but the rains were brief. There was little to no relief during the overnight hours, with lows ranging from 27 to 32 degrees.

The hottest temperatures on July 4th ever were recorded in 1989 at 46 degrees Celsius. The coldest temperatures were recorded in 1912, the first year of Arizona’s statehood, at 32 degrees Celsius.

Dry air will dramatically reduce storm chances, with occasional dust drifts possible in the far southeastern part of the state. Temperatures are expected to slowly drop through the end of next week.
