July 4th means showtime for Skylighters fireworks

BUFFALO — It’s showtime for Matt Shaw and his team at Skylighters Fireworks as preparations continue for 59 fireworks shows throughout the weekend across Western New York.

Two of the biggest Wednesday night shows are the Independence Day celebrations with the Buffalo Bisons and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Newfane Bicentennial.

Shaw showed 7 News senior reporter Maki Becker the base of operations where tens of thousands of pounds of fireworks were loaded onto trucks.

He showed how fireworks are loaded into mortars and then launched into the air. Everything is coordinated by cables and computers.

Shaw also said that when it comes to the weather in Western New York, Skylighters is prepared.

“It’s summer in Western New York, there’s a lot of humidity and there’s always a chance of rain. But you know, we’re prepared for that,” he said.
