Four students suspended from Koyilandy College for physically assaulting the principal

Four activists of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) have been suspended following the recent alleged attack on the principal of Gurudeva College of Advanced Studies in Koyilandy.

According to sources, the suspended students are MK Theju Sunil (second year BBA), TK Theju Lakshmi (third year BBA), RP Amal Raj (second year BCom) and Abhishek S. Santhosh (second year BSc Psychology).

They were reportedly part of the group of students who wanted to set up a help desk on the campus on the first day of admission to the four-year undergraduate programme, on Monday (July 1). The denial of permission reportedly led to the attack on Sunil Bhaskaran, principal, by BR Abhinav, chairman of the SFI Koyilandy area committee, who is not a student of the college.

Mr. Abhinav also accused Mr. Bhaskaran of assaulting him and both of them filed a police complaint. The college has been closed since then.

On Tuesday (July 2), SFI activists held a protest march during which area secretary Navatej S. Mohan threatened to “break Mr. Bhaskaran’s legs.”
