Motorcyclist killed after colliding with van in Burke County: Highway Patrol

CONNELLY SPRINGS, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A motorcyclist was killed this week in an eastern Burke County collision, state troopers say.

According to the NC State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just after 6 pm July 1 on NC 18 near Miller Bridge Road. That’s where a Honda motorcycle was traveling north on Hwy. 18, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2019 Chevrolet Express van.

The motorcycle also caught on fire and its driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van, a Vale man, was not injured.

Troopers say excessive speed was the contributing factor in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours.

No charges will be filed in this case.
