Macon Co. Emergency Alert Service will conduct annual test next week

MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) – People registered for an emergency alert system in Macon County will begin receiving test messages from the system next week.

The Macon County Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB) will conduct its annual test on Wednesday, July 11 at 11 a.m. Landline phones will be automatically used in the system, while people will only receive alerts via cell phones if they have signed up online.

Decatur, Forsyth, Harristown, Long Creek, Maroa, Mt. Zion, Oreana and Warrensburg all offer this service to provide potentially life-saving information. The system can be used for situations such as severe weather, chemical spills and active shooter incidents. The system can also provide information for convenience, such as details on boil water orders, road closures and construction.

If people are already registered for the service, they are advised to check that their contact information is up to date. If they are registered and do not receive a notification on July 10, they should correct their contact information.

Users can register for the system by clicking here.
