A man who carried out a campaign of violent and sexual assault spanning more than two decades has been jailed.

Brian McGlashan, of Perth, was found guilty of eight charges following a trial at the High Court in Dundee on 5 June.

The 57-year-old targeted three of his victims at addresses in the Perthshire area between 1996 and 2019.

In one of these attacks, McGlashan pushed a victim, held him over the water of the River Tay and threatened him.

The woman was also seriously injured and permanently disfigured by McGlashan’s attack.

He isolated a second woman from her friends, threatened to deport her, damaged property and broke the lock on a bathroom door during the abuse.

McGlashan was found guilty of two counts of voyeurism after observing two of his victims naked.

Guilty of two counts of rape

The perpetrator was also found guilty of two counts of rape.

On 3 July, McGlashan was sentenced to nine years in prison, suspended for a further four years, by the High Court in Paisley.

His name was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

A 15-year restraining order was issued prohibiting McGlashan from having any contact or attempting to contact any of the victims.

Katrina Parkes, Crown Prosecutor for Sex Offences Scotland, said: “Brian McGlashan is a serial offender who has caused lasting trauma through his controlling, violent and sexually depraved behaviour.

Bravery of the victims

“It is thanks to the courage of his victims to come forward and speak to the authorities that the public prosecutor was able to obtain this conviction.

“McGlashan will now face the consequences of his actions, which will hopefully provide some comfort to the victims of his abuse.

“COPFS would like to encourage anyone affected by similar crimes to come forward.

“We will listen to you and seek justice by ensuring those responsible are identified and held accountable.”
