What could the Houston Astros expect in an Alex Bregman trade to the Yankees?

The Houston Astros are expected to be a busy team heading into the MLB trade deadline later this month. However, they are also a team that will help decide how that deadline plays out.

Dana Brown will have to choose whether the Astros will try to acquire more talent or sell some of their own.

If Houston decides to trade, many teams around the league will be calling with interest. One of the main players mentioned as a potential trade target is star third baseman Alex Bregman.

Bregman would be a great addition for many baseball contenders. The New York Yankees have been cited as one of the teams that could be interested in acquiring him.

If the Astros consider trading Bregman to the Yankees, what might their return look like?

Recently, The Athletic suggested a potential trade between Houston and New York. In that trade, the Yankees would send Will Warren and Clayton Beeter to the Astros in exchange for Bregman.

“It may be too high a price for a rental, but the Yankees have what the Astros need: a starting pitcher. But is it even possible that the two rivals could team up for a player associated with the 2017 Astros?”

Warren is currently ranked as the 7th best prospect in New York’s system. Beeter is ranked as the 13th best prospect.

Both of these players could become important players for Houston. Neither player is a guarantee, but it’s a decent return that could yield good results.

During the 2024 season with the Astros, Bregman played in 81 games. He hit .248/.306/.396 with nine home runs and 37 RBIs. Those numbers would be a great upgrade for the Yankees and give them a nice upgrade at third base.

There are plenty of other teams around the league that are reportedly interested in Bregman. New York might even be willing to pay more than that amount if a bidding war breaks out.

That being said, with the MLB trade deadline fast approaching, Houston will soon have to make a decision on their direction. If they decide to trade, Bregman, Kyle Tucker, and potentially other players could be made available on the market.
