Connecticut flags fly at half-mast in memory of slain DOT employee

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Governor Ned Lamont on Wednesday ordered U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be flown at half-staff beginning Friday in memory of the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) employee who was killed on the job in Wallingford last week.

Andrew DiDomenico, 26, suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a car while working on the Wharton Brook Connector near I-91 last Friday.

Lamont’s order takes effect at sunrise on Friday, July 5, and will remain in effect until sunset on Saturday, July 6.

“We honor the memory of Andrew DiDomenico and his service to the State of Connecticut and the Connecticut Department of Transportation,” Lamont said in a statement. “This is a heartbreaking tragedy that should never have happened. My prayers and condolences go out to Andrew’s family, friends and CTDOT employees during this devastating time.”

The flag lowering will be coordinated with the planned wake and memorial service for the Meriden native.

As part of the order, flags at the Connecticut State Capitol and all other state buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state will fly at half-staff.

Individuals and organizations are encouraged to lower their flags as well. Since the U.S. flag should always fly the highest, all other flags should also be lowered.
