Houston BARC Animal Shelter Offers Free Pet Adoptions After Storms

The BARC animal shelter announced the facility reached full capacity Tuesday afternoon after severe storms and flooding in the Houston area.

There were more than 500 pets inside the shelter and staff had to use temporary crates to cope with the increase in animals.

“We cannot stress this enough: BARC needs your help, and we need it now more than ever,” according to the BARC Facebook page. “If you’ve ever considered opening your heart and home to a four-legged friend, now is the time to act.”

BARC has decided to make adoption free until Wednesday May 15 for anyone wishing to acquire a pet. The shelter received help from the BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, according to the foundation’s website.
