Man dies in fiery accident on Interstate 85 in Guilford County

GUILFORD COUNTY, NC (WGHP) — State Police have released the identity of the man who died in a fiery crash on Interstate 85 on Tuesday.

At around 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, state police troopers arrived on I-85 South near NC 62 in Guilford County after receiving a report of an accident.


Investigators say 36-year-old David Hollander-Urbach of Durham was driving a 2011 Lexus south on I-85 when he veered left off the road and struck a tree.

The impact caused the Lexus to catch fire and Hollander-Urbach died at the scene of the accident.

Police say they aren’t sure why Hollander-Urbach drove off the road.

During the investigation, one lane of I-85 South was closed for three hours.
