Shugatiti tells of rape by “social media friend”

Shugatiti, born Abena Serwaa Frimpong, said she was once raped.

She said it happened while she was looking for a place to store her belongings before she was evicted.

According to her, she was helped by a “social media friend” with whom she frequently chatted and who eventually took advantage of her while “I was sleeping.”

“I told him I was looking for a place to store my things because the dorm I was moving into was open on Mondays,” she explained.

“He forced me to have sex,” she said, adding that she was not popular at the time.

“Every time I think about it, I feel sad,” said the 33-year-old celebrity, adding that she was 18 when she was raped.

She said she was not tied up by the attacker and asked rhetorically: “If someone sleeps with you without your consent, is that rape, isn’t it? And someone who is determined to do something will certainly do it.”

The restaurant owner stressed that she had been sleeping and was clothed, but “I don’t normally walk around with panties on.”

The social media sensation said she has neither filed a complaint against the perpetrator nor revealed his identity during an interview with Nana Romeo on Ayekoo Ayekoo on Accra 100.5 FM.

“I saw it as part of the vicissitudes of life. If I hadn’t been so desperate and looking for accommodation, this wouldn’t have happened,” she added, revealing that she left the man’s apartment the very next day and went to the hostel.

She was so shocked by this grim incident that she exclaimed: “Hey, but some Ghanaian men are evil.”
