Woman filmed ‘monstrous’ rape and sexual abuse to bring her attacker to justice

A man who raped and sexually assaulted a woman was found guilty after his victim recorded the incident.

David Pacera was found guilty by a jury of four sexual offenses.

On January 3, the woman told police she had been raped and sexually assaulted by 42-year-old Pacera at a property in Worthing. He was arrested the same day.

The victim, who is entitled to lifelong anonymity by law, was protected and supported by specialist officers while the investigation was launched, Sussex Police said.

During the trial, the court heard a 90-minute audio recording of the victim during the January 3 incident, which includes the victim saying “no” several times.

Following a five-day trial at Chichester Crown Court, Pacera, of no fixed address, was found guilty of rape, attempted rape, digital penetration and sexual assault on Friday, June 28.

Sentence is due to be handed down at Hove Crown Court on Friday 5 July.

Detective Police Constable Ellie Treagust praised the woman for finding a way to record the attack and providing crucial evidence that helped police secure a conviction.

She said: “This was an outrageous attack on a defenceless victim.

“She reported the attack immediately and, despite the brutality of what she suffered, had the presence of mind to immediately secure evidence.

“I would like to thank the victim for having the courage and determination to go through with this investigation and appear in court. Her bravery has helped make Sussex a safer place for everyone.”

Sussex Police urges victims of sexual crimes to report them online or by calling 101.

“In an emergency, always dial 999,” a police spokesman added.

“You will be believed, you will be supported and we will do everything in our power to get you justice.”
