Weather agency alert day as storms break hot, dry pattern

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A dry afternoon will quickly change this evening.

A line of rain with embedded thunderstorms will move south into northern Florida by evening.

The greatest chance of severe weather with gusty winds will occur in southern Georgia between Waycross and Brunswick between 4 and 7 p.m.

Stronger storms are projected in the yellow and red areas.

Rain will become lighter and the chance of damaging winds south of Nassau and Duval County will decrease after 6 p.m. The beneficial rain could continue until 8-9 p.m. as it falls toward St. Augustine this evening.

Expected rain is at 6:00 p.m. Largest Severe Period Targeting Georgia.
The rain schedule until 8 p.m. targets southern areas.
By 10:00 p.m. the strong storms had disappeared and there were overnight showers.

There is currently no severe storm warning in effect for our areas. However, a tornado warning is in effect for north and central Georgia until 5:00 p.m., and may extend south to cover southeast Georgia this afternoon.

Models do not show a significant risk of tornadoes for the greater Jacksonville area at this time, but a moderate risk of damaging gusts will be the primary threat in the thunderstorm bands. A tornado may also be associated with embedded stronger circulations within the line, but these threats may be limited to the Suwannee Valley and southern Georgia.
