A Metropolitan Police Department officer and another person were seriously injured when they were struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of a Las Vegas supermarket around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of negligent driving, police said.

The officer was speaking with the person when a westbound vehicle drove off the road at a “high rate of speed” and entered the parking lot of a convenience store at the northeast corner of Boulder Highway and South Lamb Boulevard, police said.

Both the officer and the person suffered “serious but non-life-threatening” injuries, police said. They confirmed that the officer involved suffered a leg injury. No buildings were damaged in the collision.
