Police pursue driver of allegedly stolen hospital van

A suspect who stole a van from a children’s hospital was arrested after leading police on a wild chase through Los Angeles Tuesday night.

The male suspect was observed driving erratically on motorways and country roads, at times driving on the wrong side of the road and narrowly missing many vehicles and pedestrians nearby.

The suspect ignored street light instructions, squeezed through congested streets and dangerously weaved through traffic.

LAPD officers remained close behind the driver as he sped away recklessly. It is possible that the driver was armed.

The chase began around 7:21 p.m. in the North Hollywood area before the suspect stopped in Panorama City about an hour later. He then quickly jumped out of the van, ran across the street and into the garden center of a Home Depot store.

Police quickly surrounded the parking lot and stormed into the store while Home Depot employees pointed in the direction the suspect had fled.

The suspect, who was initially seen wearing a yellow sweater, appeared to have removed some clothing to blend in with the shoppers.

He was eventually found inside and taken into custody. It is unclear which children’s hospital the van was stolen from.
