Police officer stabbed in Lincoln County, suspect dead

RANGER, W.Va. (WBOY) – A West Virginia State Police trooper shot and killed a man who officials say stabbed another trooper Wednesday night.

West Virginia State Police said in a news release that they stopped a vehicle on 10 Mile Road in the Lincoln County Ranger Area. Troopers said the suspect, 46-year-old Harman Davis of Branchland, then ran into a wooded area.


According to West Virginia State Police, one of the troopers ran after Davis and caught up with him. Davis stabbed the police officer multiple times. Another police officer on the scene then shot Davis, who died from his wounds.

The injured soldier, identified in the news release as Senior Trooper Hurley, is recovering from surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington and is in stable condition.

This investigation is ongoing.
