Man drowns in crab fishing incident in Kitsap County – KIRO 7 News Seattle

SEABECK, Wash. – A 50-year-old man died Monday while crabbing from a kayak in Seabeck.

According to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, the victim became entangled in a rope attached to his crab basket.

A sheriff’s office marine unit was called to the scene along with the Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue Unit.

Unfortunately, the man was already dead when he was pulled out of the water.

The sheriff’s office said the man was not wearing a life jacket. He tried to put one on, but the jacket also got caught in the rope.

Life jackets should always be worn in small boats such as kayaks, paddleboards and jet skis. On larger boats, life jackets must be on board and easily accessible.
