Jackson police arrest a man after the victim was shot in the head

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police have arrested a suspect after a shooting at an apartment complex.

The shooting occurred Wednesday, May 8, in the 300 block of Raymond Road.


Detective Tommie Brown said an argument between suspect Barnett Evans and the victim led to the shooting. The victim was shot in the head and Evans fled the scene.

Brown said Evans was at a home in the 400 block of Cooper Road. When the police arrived, he was not there.

Police were able to contact Evans by phone and Brown said the hostage taker was able to convince him to surrender. Evans was found at a home in the 200 block of Treehaven Drive and arrested.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
