Selma’s deputy police chief resigns after being cleared during investigation

Posted:

Selma Deputy Police Chief Natasha Fowlkes has resigned despite being exonerated in a recent investigation.

Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. said in a statement that someone within the police department had accused Fowlkes of illegal activity. Perkins said the department’s internal affairs division determined the allegation warranted further investigation. He said Fowlkes was placed on leave with pay because the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office was assigned to investigate.

Perkins said the sheriff’s office and the district attorney jointly concluded that no criminal offense was committed.

Despite her exoneration, she decided to resign after a conversation with Fowlkes because the investigation had had a negative impact on her and her family, Perkins said.

He says he has accepted her resignation from the department, effective today.

“I would like to thank her for her services throughout her career in the police force. the Selma Police Department and wish her a successful future,” Perkins said.
