USMNT player Tim Weah must serve his suspension in the Nations League

US winger Timothy Weah will miss the first leg of the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals in November to serve the second game of his two-match suspension after punching Panama’s Roderick Miller in the back of the head during the Copa América.

Weah served the penalty in the first match on Monday and watched from the stands as the USA were eliminated from the Copa with a 1-0 loss to Uruguay.

The remainder of the suspension will be served in the Americans’ next competitive match against an opponent yet to be determined in the Concacaf Nations League, the US Soccer Association announced on Tuesday.

Weah, 24, is eligible for the September and October friendlies. The U.S. will play Canada on Sept. 7 in Kansas City, Kansas, and New Zealand three days later in Cincinnati. There will be a match against Panama on Oct. 12 in Austin, Texas, and another friendlies three days later against an opponent and venue to be announced.

Weah, who plays for Juventus in Serie A, was sent off in the 18th minute of last week’s 2-1 loss to Panama. He is the son of George Weah, the 1995 FIFA Player of the Year and Liberia’s president until January.
