36 animals rescued from a New Jersey home, 7 more found dead

Police in southern New Jersey rescued seven dogs and 29 cats from a home in Galloway Township where two dead dogs and a dead adult cat were found in a freezer.

Police said four dead kittens were also found in the house.

According to Galloway Township police, 57-year-old Nancy Santos was arrested and charged with 43 counts of animal neglect.

She was taken to the Atlantic County Judicial Facility where she awaits a hearing.

Authorities said they obtained a search warrant for the Atlantic City-area residence after receiving reports of “numerous animals living in inhumane conditions” at a home in the 300 block of Cresson Avenue.

Citing an affidavit of suspicion, local broadcaster BreakingAC reported that the house was found “covered with animal feces and urine.”

Most of the rescued animals had fleas and injuries of some sort, including open wounds and cuts, the affidavit said.

Law enforcement thanked Kimmy’s Safe Haven Rescue, the Atlantic County Animal Shelter and A-Academy Animal Control for their assistance in Monday’s rescue efforts.

New Jersey animal protection laws prohibit pet owners from “failing to provide necessary care to a living animal or creature in their care.”
