July 2, 2024 – 4:00 p.m.

WRGA Staff Reports –

The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced that lane closures on the state’s interstates and state roads have been lifted for the upcoming July 4th holiday weekend.

The closure will begin at 12:00 noon on July 3 and last until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7.

During this time, construction-related lane closures will be suspended to allow for smoother traffic. GDOT urges drivers to remain cautious as workers may still be working near highways and some lane closures may remain in place for an extended period for safety reasons.

At the same time, the Georgia State Patrol is urging everyone to celebrate Independence Day with responsible travel.

AAA forecasts that state troopers and officers will be patrolling interstates, state highways and county roads throughout Georgia at full strength during what will be the busiest Independence Day period ever.

This year the holiday travel time is 102 hours and begins on Wednesday, July 3rd at 6pm and ends on Sunday, July 7th.
