JP France starter undergoes season-ending shoulder surgery

TORONTO — Astros pitcher JP France underwent surgery on his right shoulder Monday and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday.

France’s surgery was to “repair a torn capsule,” according to the Astros. The team did not give a specific date for France’s recovery.

Last week, France’s agent announced that the right-hander would need season-ending surgery and that the procedure would be performed by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Keith Meister.

France began this season in the Astros’ rotation and was sent to Triple-A Sugar Land on April 27. He made one start for Sugar Land before being placed on the minor league injured list.
