Condition of Arab child still unknown after possible drowning accident

ARAB, Alabama (WHNT) – A 2-year-old girl was hospitalized Monday evening following a possible drowning accident, according to the Arab Fire Department.

A fire department spokesman said they responded to a 911 call about a two-year-old possible drowning victim from a home on Almond Drive around 7 p.m.

Arab Police Chief Shane Washburn said when officers arrived at the home, the girl was already lying by the pool. The family and officers performed CPR until emergency services arrived.

The AFD spokesman said she was taken to Marshall Medical Center North and shortly thereafter flown by helicopter to Children’s of Birmingham.

Chief Washburn said the child’s condition is currently unknown.

The family will hold a vigil at 5:30 p.m. at Liberty Church, 120 Kenyon Road in Arab.
