Scottish DJ who confessed to raping sleeping woman on YouTube finally convicted

A PERVERT DJ was arrested for raping a sleeping woman – after making a confession on YouTube.

Despite his online confession two years ago, Craig Strachan, 32, claimed in court that he believed his victim was awake and consenting when he had sex with her in a basement flat in Edinburgh in 2013.

However, a jury rejected his defense and took less than an hour to reach a unanimous verdict finding him guilty of rape.

Strachan was found guilty of entering the woman’s bed without her consent, touching her body and raping her while she was asleep and unable to give or refuse consent and after she woke up.

During a three-day trial at the High Court in Livingston, the jury heard compelling evidence from his victim, now 32, that she was sleeping when she was sexually abused by the defendant over 11 years ago.

Jurors were shown a series of Facebook messages, including one she sent him immediately afterwards in which she bluntly stated: “You f***ing raped me.”

Strachan, whose stage name is “Craig Saint,” confessed to an interviewer on the YouTube channel “I’mPossible Conversation” in 2022 that he had raped the sleeping woman at the age of 21, saying, “I was high and totally wasted,”

He admitted: “I had sex with her while she was sleeping. It lasted about 10 seconds.”

“She was in my bed and when it happened, I immediately knew, ‘Shit, I shouldn’t have done that.'”

While the Beast smiled and giggled throughout the interview, he insisted that he had forgiven himself after “finding God.”

He said: “I have admitted this and have also contacted the girl and her family to apologise for the situation.

“That’s why I started the forgiveness movement – to help people who are afraid to talk about their mistakes and to show them how to ask for forgiveness and forgive themselves.”

Strachan was described on the YouTube site as “an international DJ, producer and event promoter from Glasgow who loves to bring joy into the lives of the people he meets – be it on the dancefloor or in person.”

He lives in Barcelona and recently in London and says he has given concerts in Switzerland, Italy, Ibiza and Scotland, as well as hosting sold-out events at his home club, the Mash House in Edinburgh.

Assistant solicitor Kirsty Cockburn told the court that Strachan was released on bail after making his first court appearance on the rape charge in March 2022.

However, his bail was revoked after he failed to appear for trial on March 26 this year. After finally appearing in court on April 2, he was remanded in custody.

Judge Fiona Tait remanded him in custody while a criminal social work report and risk assessment report are prepared.
