Arrest in connection with shooting on Highway 6 in Tupelo

TUPELO – Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting incident on Highway 6 that occurred on June 25, 2024. Tupelo Police responded to reports of shots fired at a motor vehicle near the South Thomas Street exit. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle with damage to the front driver’s tire.

According to the victim, who was traveling westbound on Highway 6, a white Dodge Challenger attempted to pass him in the left lane. During the passing maneuver, a passenger in the Dodge Challenger leaned out the window and fired two shots at the victim’s vehicle, striking the tire.

After a thorough investigation, Zarrat T. Sims, age 31 and resident of Tupelo, was arrested on July 1, 2024. He is accused of shooting at a motor vehicle. This is the second arrest related to this incident.

Judge Pinkard of the Tupelo Municipal Court set Sims’ bail at $50,000 during a hearing on July 1, 2024. The indictment against Sims will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury for further proceedings.

Tupelo Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the Highway 6 shooting.
